Time to talk Take Action on Climate Change

TreeTime’s mission is two pronged: reducing atmospheric carbon levels to prevent further acceleration in global temperatures, and promoting and restoring the flora and fauna unique to New Zealand.

NATIVE TREES FORCarbon Capture

New Zealand is home to a wide array of endemic canopy tree species that sequester large quantities of carbon.

Climate Change Commission's Advice

Protecting the future

The commission would see a significant increase in new native forests established on less productive land. The Ministry for Primary Industries forecasts that there will be around 12,000 hectares of new native forests established in 2021. Our path would see this ramp up to 25,000 hectares per year from 2030.

Making the best use of land

Estimates from recent studies suggest there is on the order of 1,150,000 to 1,400,000 hectares of marginal land that could be planted in forestry. As much of this land is steep and prone to erosion, the commission considers that it would be more suitable for permanent forests, particularly native forests.
